Description

The Solidoodle Workbench fully assembled 3D fused-filament-fabrication printer has a dual extruder and an open frame for fabricating parts up to 12 x 12 x 12 inches (H x W x D) the usage of 1.75-mm ABS and PLA filament (sold one at a time). The dual extruders enable printing in two colors or materials, including water-soluble PLA for temporary make stronger structures in a printed part. The printer has a USB connection with an included USB cable to connect to a pc (sold one at a time) and works with the downloadable SoliPrint computer software.

The heated glass print bed with aluminum build platform is warp resistant, and the printer automatically calibrates to accommodate an unlevel print bed, ensuring precise prints. The frame is made from black aluminum-plated steel with ABS and aluminum components for durability. The printer head moves on the Y (from side to side) and x (left to right) axes, at the same time as the print bed moves on the Z (up and down) axis.

*H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.

Fused filament fabrication printers build prototypes and parts directly from computer-aided-design (CAD) data sources by stacking layers upon layers of molten material. The print material is provided in filament or wire form and is fed through an extruder within the print head, very similar to how ink is used in a standard printer. A printer with a single extruder can print the usage of one filament at a time; a printer with dual extruders can print with two different materials or colors at the same time. The thickness of the printed layers can also be customized for each print, but the thinnest layer that a printer can lay is called its maximum resolution. Choosing to print the usage of very thin layers will create parts with more detail, but will usually take longer to print. To lay the material in the correct way, the print head and bed usually move in a combination of X-axis (left and right), Y-axis (forward and backward), and Z-axis (up and down) movement.

Solidoodle manufactures 3D printers and accessories. The company, founded in 2011, manufactures its printers at its headquarters in Brooklyn, NY.
